In Participants' Words
Tan Hui Ling
Bedok · Attended Estate Reading Series
"I had been putting off thinking about LPA documents for years because the language felt impenetrable. Eight sessions in, and I can actually follow what my solicitor is saying. The weekly glossary cards were something I kept coming back to even outside the sessions."

Toa Payoh · Attended Pre-Retirement Workshop
"My wife and I attended together. We both had different questions going in — she was more interested in cashflow, I was focused on the SRS material — and the weekend covered both without feeling rushed. The workbook gave us a structured way to continue the conversation at home."

Tampines · Attended Family Money Circle
"I signed up because I had been struggling to talk to my mother about her CPF nominations — every conversation we tried turned awkward. The session on conversations with ageing parents gave me a vocabulary and a framework. We had the conversation two weeks later. It went well."

Jurong West · Attended Estate Reading Series
"What I appreciated most was the absence of any pressure. Nobody was trying to sell me anything. The facilitator was careful to stay within the scope of the material, and when someone asked for specific advice, she redirected thoughtfully. That restraint built a lot of trust."

Bishan · Attended Pre-Retirement Workshop
"Solid programme. The CPF Life section was the most useful for me personally — I had a rough idea of how it worked, but reading through the material in a group clarified several points I had misunderstood. I would have liked a bit more time on the household cashflow mapping, but that is a minor note."

Queenstown · Attended Family Money Circle
"The reading circle format was new to me but it worked. Because everyone had read the same chapter before the session, the discussion started at a much higher level than I expected. The conversation cards have been sitting on my kitchen table since the programme ended."

How the Programmes Changed the Conversation
Pre-Retirement Workshop
The situation
A couple in their mid-fifties, both still working, found themselves having the same incomplete conversation about CPF Life repeatedly. Neither had enough vocabulary to move the conversation forward.
What the programme offered
The weekend workbook covered CPF Life payout options and household priority mapping in structured reading sessions. Both attended together, working through the same prompts independently before discussing.
What followed
With a shared vocabulary, they were able to complete the conversation and book an appointment with their financial planner — who noted they came better prepared than most of his clients.
"We had been talking around the same subject for two years. After the weekend, we actually completed the conversation."
Estate Reading Series
The situation
A 58-year-old professional had drafted a will several years earlier but was uncertain whether it still reflected her intentions — particularly around CPF nominations and an LPA she had never properly understood.
What the programme offered
Eight sessions covering the vocabulary around wills, CPF nominations, LPA documents, and advance care arrangements. Pre-distributed chapters let her read carefully before each discussion session.
What followed
She returned to her solicitor with a clear sense of what she wanted to update and why. The review took one meeting rather than three, because she knew what questions to ask.
"The glossary cards made the difference. I went to my solicitor and for the first time I felt like I understood what I was being told."
Family Money Reading Circle
The situation
Three siblings — aged 44, 49, and 52 — needed to coordinate decisions around their ageing parents' finances but had no shared framework for the conversation, and different assumptions about who should take the lead.
What the programme offered
The four-session circle covered sibling coordination and conversations with ageing parents as specific frameworks. The conversation cards gave them structured prompts to use outside the sessions.
What followed
All three attended separately as part of the same cohort. They left with a shared vocabulary and a family meeting plan built around the conversation cards. Two of the three enrolled in the Estate Reading Series the following season.
"We arrived with different assumptions and left with a shared framework. That alone was worth the four sessions."
